Airport and aviation mapping
Airports play an important role within global and passenger and cargo transportation. Nowadays, improving airport’s technological and economic performance is increasingly important. Main airports development scenarios and create expansion plans to attract more passengers and businesses, and the secondary airports tend to fulfill specialized niches. It requires information on airport areas and airport environs which can be both limiting and stimulating factors for airport development.
Theoretically airports must be situated in areas where is enough space to accommodate additional runways or aprons, and where the airspace is free from obstructions in the vicinity and takeoff — landing paths. But it is far from true in practice. Airports located in metropolitan areas are often surrounded with buildings, constructions, towers etc. Airports at mountain areas and small islands are often configured around many obstacles such as mountains, cliffs and man-made structures. Expensive land acquisition programs, environmental concerns and low traffic capacity access roads are among other limitations.
As all mentioned economic, safety and environmental issues become more and more important, Zesmill assists airports both in developed and developing countries in surveying, mapping, noise measurement, bird hazard assessment, geospatial and property data management. Services we offer include, but are not limited to:
- aerial imaging, LIDAR surveying, topographic mapping for the airport planning, feasibility studies, master planning, pavement management etc.
- airport environs mapping and 3D modeling
- digital Elevation Models, digital Terrain Models (DEM, DTM) generation
- obstacle surveys and eTOD database development
- aircraft noise measurement and modeling, assessment of community impacts, creation of 2D and 3D noise impact maps
- landscape mapping, landfill detection and GIS analysis for the bird strike risk assessment
- geodetic and 3D laser surveying, floor plans, layouts for the facility management and airport GIS
- implementation of airport GIS
- airport “catchment areas” environmental, demographic and economic analysis, geomarketing research
Zesmill serves airports and heliports as well as airport development companies primarily in Central and Eastern Europe, Caucasus, and Asia.
